Cruz Bay History
St. John’s vibrant main town and port, Cruz Bay is home to most of the 28-square-mile island’s restaurants, bars, jeep/car rental companies, boutiques, convenience stores and dive centers. From the eclectic collection of shops and eateries at Wharfside village literally 2-minutes by foot from Grande Bay, to the more expansive Mongoose Junction, there are shopping and dining options to meet varying tastes and budgets.
Two-thirds of affluent St. John is a national park, and many safari buses and jeeps set out from Cruz Bay. Don’t miss some of our favorites, that include iScream, the Tap Room, La Tapa, Ocean Grill, and many, many others. But, although Cruz Bay is the hub of activity, it is also the trail head for one of the best hikes on the island.
If you love to explore by foot, visit the National Park Visitors Center, and they will show you how to access the Lind Point trail.
The Lind Point Trail runs between the parking area behind the National Park Visitor Center and the beaches at Solomon and Honeymoon Bays. The trail passes through what are known as cactus scrub and dry forest environments between Lind Point and the beaches.
